How these lines are chosen

Among 4 products and 4 retailer listings we track; Amazon and Walmart are not included. A month is thirty doses of the size in the heading, priced the same way as the per-dose figure beside it. “Delivery known” ranks only products whose retailer publishes a delivery rate; a cheaper product with an unpublished rate is on its own line, or in the full list below. No product here that clears every other bar publishes a delivery rate below its free-delivery threshold, so the pick is priced before delivery.

Why this pick, and what's cheaper

Not a score, no weightings to argue with. It is the cheapest certified option, at this exact package where the certifier names packages, with no recall, warning letter or failed test in the sources we checked, a price its retailer let us read within its cache limit, and no more than a year's supply at the label's serving, priced before delivery: no certified product here publishes a delivery rate below its free-delivery threshold, so what you pay depends on your cart. It is provisional: it is the best answer within the products, retailers and sources we have actually checked, and that universe is still narrow.

Nature Made $1.59 is cheaper, but no independent verification we could locate.

Vegan omega-3 from algae, priced per 1,000 mg of combined EPA+DHA as the panel states it. Some carry DHA and no EPA, so the panel figures sit next to the price.

Prices are checked daily where a store can be read automatically; Sports Research is read by hand, less often, and a price past its date says so. Every figure links to its source. Where the data comes from

Of the 4 products here: 1 named at the exact package by a certifier, 2 in no database we searched, 1 listed under a program we do not record (IAOS).

2 rows marked + delivery exclude an unpublished delivery charge, so their real cost per dose is higher.

Common questions

What is the cheapest omega-3 per 1,000 mg of EPA+DHA?
Omega-3 capsules and softgels priced per 1,000 mg of combined EPA+DHA instead of per softgel or per bottle, split by fish, algal and krill oil.
Why does my fish oil label not say how much EPA and DHA it has?
Some fish oil panels print a total omega-3 figure, or only the oil weight, and name EPA and DHA with no amounts. Those cannot be priced per dose.
Which fish oil and omega-3 brands are third-party tested?
Every fish, algal and krill oil we track, grouped by whether a certifier names the exact bottle sold, another size, or nothing we found.
Do third-party tested supplements cost more?
Per category, the cheapest product we track beside the cheapest a certifier names at the exact package, if any, within one format and, where it matters, one strength.
How many fish oil capsules make 1,000 mg of EPA and DHA?
Fish, algal and krill oils by how many softgels reach 1,000 mg of combined EPA and DHA, read from each label. A price yardstick, not a recommended dose.
Is BulkSupplements third party tested?
Every BulkSupplements product we track, by whether a certifier names the exact package sold, only another size, or nothing we found. With listing IDs.
Do supplement travel packs cost more per dose?
Every travel pack or single-serve packet we price, next to the same brand’s smallest tub or bottle of the same product, per comparison dose.
What is the cheapest NSF certified fish oil or omega-3?
Every omega-3 we track whose exact bottle NSF names in its Certified for Sport database, ranked by cost per 1,000 mg of combined EPA and DHA.
Is Momentous third party tested?
Every Momentous product we price, checked in NSF’s Certified for Sport database: where a listing names the exact package, and where it names another size.
Which supplements are NSF Certified for Sport?
Every package we price that NSF names in its Certified for Sport database, by category, with the listing IDs and what each listing actually covers.
Krill oil vs fish oil: which costs less per dose of EPA and DHA?
What krill oil and fish oil cost for the same EPA and DHA, and how many softgels of each it takes to get there. Algal oil is priced alongside them.
Do supplement prices actually change?
We keep every price reading we take: daily where a store can be read automatically, less often where it is read by hand. Which prices have moved since we started, which have not, and by how much.
How many capsules is one serving?
How many pills the label calls one serving, across every capsule, tablet and softgel we have a price for, and what that does to the count on the front of the bottle.
Is Sports Research third party tested?
Every Sports Research product we track, checked in the certifier databases: which program lists each one, and which no database we searched lists.
Is Nature Made third party tested?
Every Nature Made product we price, checked against USP’s Verified Products directory, NSF’s Certified for Sport database and its own label, product by product.
Is Sports Research fish oil third party tested?
Sports Research fish oil, krill oil and algal DHA checked bottle by bottle against the Nutrasource directory that publishes IFOS results and NSF’s database.
Is Momentous fish oil NSF certified?
Momentous Omega-3, its travel packs and the vegan omega-3 checked against NSF Certified for Sport and the IFOS directory, with the listing IDs.

About these numbers

What “per dose” means here: 1,000mg combined EPA + DHA

1,000 mg of combined EPA + DHA is a round number chosen so that products with very different oil concentrations are priced on the same amount of the thing they are bought for. Signed off by Dan on September 12, 2026 as the family's yardstick, on the same footing as the others: a unit for comparing prices, not a recommended intake, and it cannot change which product is cheapest, because every product in the family is scaled by the same number. Compared on EPA + DHA only: total omega-3 and total oil are shown as specs and never used as the basis. The reference is cited for the yardstick alone, and this rationale deliberately makes no claim about what trials or guidelines use.

Compared on EPA+DHA as each panel prints it, not on the total fish oil weight the front of a bottle names.

Where the data comes from
Every claim links to its source. Products, prices and certification listings are read from the retailers' own stores and the certifiers' own databases, and each figure links to the record it came from, so you can check any of them.
  • Where a servings-per-container figure was not read from the package's own panel, the product page says how it was worked out.
  • Amazon and Walmart are not included, so “cheapest” means cheapest among the retailers we track.
  • Prices go stale. Each one shows when it was last checked, and says so when it is older than the retailer allows us to cache it.
  • iHerb prices cannot be refreshed automatically. iHerb has not given us access to its price data, so those prices are marked stale until they are re-read. Each retailer offer carries its own check date.

How we make money

No Buy button on this page earns us anything. The only links on the site that can are the Amazon links shown below the price comparison on some product pages, outside the comparison, and each says so beside it.

Commission will play no part in what we list, how it ranks, or which link we send you to. The Buy button points at the lowest price we have recorded even when that retailer pays us nothing.
